Town Meeting - Selectmen - Town Manager

The Town Meeting Selectmen form of Municipal Government is the second most common in Maine.

In the mid 1920s as municipalities grew in size and state and federal regulations increased in number and complexity, municipalities began to hire administrators or managers to assist in the operation of the town government.

Under this form of government, the Board of Selectmen continue to serve as the Town's Municipal Officers.

The Town Manager administers the daily operations of the Town under the direction and at the will of the Selectmen.

The Town of Orrington has adopted by charter this form of government.

(see Town Charter).
